Chapter 191: _Plot Twists Keep Raking In Elian’s POV
"Uhm, I hope you have stats on whatever that was." He turned away from the red crystal light, pacing around the room. The system was quick, projecting a screen bar showing readings on the golden eyes and what they could mean. [So, this might be weird... But I didn’t pick up any mana traces from that thing. So that rules out the possibility of magic.] Elian’s jaw clenched. "Then what possibilities does that leave?" [How do I say "I have no fucking clue" nicely?] Dear gods... [Listen, relax, okay?] ’How can you tell me that after a pair of scary eyes spied on me? What else? I’ll get watched when I’m naked?’ [Kinda kinky if you think about it...] Elian stopped pacing, letting out a defeated sigh. ’That’s it. I think it’s been established that keeping things from Kyren might not be the best move.’
[You sure about that?] "This is his castle." He strutted toward the door. "He deserves to know if the lights have scary eyes peering through them." He opened the door, about to barge out. But his breath caught in his throat when he bumped into someone. Axel. He sighed with relief when he saw it was only the Beta who had his usual warm smile stretched on his lips. "Hey, Axel." Elian waved. " I-I thought we said our goodbyes already?" Axel furrowed his brows. "Wow. I didn’t know you were so eager for me to leave." [Yeah, neat move, fruitcake.] Elian quickly shook his head. "No, no... Not that at all. I–I wasn’t expecting to see you again and thought you’d—" "Elian, relax." Axel chuckled, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I was only teasing. What’s gotten you in such a jumpy mood?" Oh, he’s got no idea... "It’s nothing." Elian flashed a smile. Axel didn’t seem too convinced, his eyes gleaming with curiosity. But eventually he shrugged. "Anyway, I’m here with great news about Lucian actually. He’s awake!" Elian’s lips parted, his heart skipping a beat. "He... He is?" "Yep. And he was asking to see you when I was about to leave." Axel added. "But quick note... He’s still really beaten up. The doctors said it seems like a miracle that he woke up so fast. They’d been expecting a few more days at least." Hm... A miracle, eh? [Ouuu, would you look at this?] Elian’s eyes narrowed at the system’s message, unease crawling up his spine while Axel remarked: "I have to run now. Commander Farrell offered me a Dark Land aircraft to head to Arcadia, but I figured that’d be a bad idea... For obvious reasons." Elian could barely hear him as his eyes skimmed through the new stats the system showed him. [Mate #1 possessiveness meter: 99% Seduction meter: 99%... You’re just one little peck on the cheek away from tipping those scales to a hundred and unlocking Bond Resonance with him!] Elian held himself back from smirking, not realising on time that he’d spaced out. "Solara to Elian?" Axel snapped his fingers in front of his face, bringing him back to reality. "You spaced out there... Again. Are you sure you’re cool?" Elian stared at him like he’d seen a ghost at first but was quick to nod with a wry smile. "Of course. I just... Can’t wait to see Lucian. And on the flip side..."
He stepped out of his room, closing his door behind him. His face was merely inches away from the Beta’s as he whispered. "I’m still worried about you heading to Arcadia on your own. How will you cope without a Lunarian craft?" Axel’s expression softened. "The Alpha king sent a craft that should be here within ten minutes. And as for Arcadia... I’ve told you I can take care of myself, Elian." He reached for the back of his head, brushing his fingers through it gently. Elian leaned into his touch, his lips twitching into a small smile. "Take care... Again." Axel withdrew his hand, the warmth in his eyes ever present. Elian watched him leave, nodding. "You too." As the Beta bent the corner down the hallway, Elian sighed heavily, craning his neck until he was staring at the ceiling. [You’re acting like he’s marching off to war.] ’Because it technically feels like it.’ Elian responded, twisting his lips. ’I guess it’s time to see Lucian now.’ . . "Master Elian." The female doctor from earlier smiled at him when he walked into the infirmary. "I’m guessing Beta Axel informed you of the Alpha Prince waking up." Elian nodded, causing her smile to widen slightly as she gestured behind at the row of beds. "The first thing he asked for when he woke up was you." She blurted like a fan girl secretly shipping them. Which would be weird since her king was also Elian’s mate. [The loyal fruitcakes fan club might’ve gotten a new member. Hehe.] Elian stretched his hand forward to be nice. "Thank you, Miss—" he paused, leaning in so she could introduce herself. "Miss Ravenhart." She responded, shaking his hand with an impressed nod. "Be gentle with him. He’s still disoriented and his wounds are still healing." She walked past him after that, leaving Elian to stand there awkwardly. But then his eyes flitted to one of the beds and settled on HIM. Prince Douchebag himself. Only this time... Elian actually felt cool with not calling him a Douchebag. [Pfft... You have but I haven’t.] Elian ignored the system, placing his hands in his pocket and walking toward the bed slowly. Lucian was left bare-chested, the burn marks there already showing signs of clearing up. His eyes were sealed shut but Elian caught movement from his lashes. When he got to the Alpha Prince’s side, Elian stood silently, watching him. The slow beeping from the holographic screen beside the bed was the only sound being made. He didn’t know what to say or do. [As long as you don’t try emotionally revealing all your secrets to him... I’m good with whatever the heck you do.] Elian was just about to make a mental jab in return when Lucian’s eyes widened, glinting under the white lights of the infirmary.
They locked instantly on Elian, causing his chest to tighten. Was that fear, nervousness or excitement? "I’m glad you’re awake," Elian whispered, managing a smile. However, there was something... Off. [What? His shirt?] Ugh, no! There was something off with the way Lucian stared at him. It was almost as if... He was seeing him for the first time. Wait a minute— "That’s... That’s really sweet of you." Lucian spoke with a strained voice, his brows knitting as his silver eyes scanned Elian intently. "But... But who are you?" Elian’s stomach twisted, his limbs shaking with dread. This couldn’t be happening. [Welp. The plot twists just keep raking in, huh?]
