Chapter 185: _Lucian’s Last Breath Elian’s POV
"This is all my fault." He muttered under his breath as he and Axel stepped out of an Ascension platform leading right outside the mountain the palace was mounted to. Axel glanced back at him with furrowed brows. "Don’t say that, okay? None of this is your fault." Elian didn’t listen and shook his head, his chest heavy. "No, but it is. If I... If I hadn’t called you all to the training hall for my own selfish reasons, Lucian wouldn’t have gotten pissed and stormed out. He wouldn’t have gotten into whatever trouble he’s in." [You need to take a deep breath, fruitcake. Lucian is alive... Can’t you still feel your mate bond with him?] Indeed, he could... The mate bond between all his mates still thrummed with energy and life, a reminder of the connection he had with each of them. "Lucian will be fine, Elian." Axel paused just then, turning around and placing both hands on his shoulders. "We just need to find him and the first place to look would be the—" He froze and so did Elian when a deafening explosion billowed hundreds of meters in front of the mountain. The guards patrolling below all swerved their heads to the location while Axel turned around, squinting. Elian’s heart dropped to his stomach when he saw the blazing flames rising into the sky like an offering, painting the already red sky with a deeper shade.
"It came from the Lunarian aircraft!" A guard yelled out with a panicked voice, tightening his grip on the black laser gun in his hands. "Group Black cat, fallout! The rest of us will secure the force shield and the palace." Elian’s heart thudded so heavily he thought it would jump out of his throat literally. An explosion. Coming from the Lunarian aircraft. The same aircraft Lucian stormed off to for "space". Gods above... "No," Elian whispered under his breath, his chest tightening while his eyes stung with wetness at the edges. "No!" He brushed past Axel, his bare feet crunching on the scorching hot sand as he ran toward the blazing mushroom-shaped flames. "Elian, wait!" Axel yelled behind him, but all he could think about was the possibility of Lucian still being inside that aircraft. Just when he thought his problems couldn’t worsen, the system dinged with troubling news in his head. [WARNING: Mate bond with mate #1 flickering. His life force readings are plummeting drastically.] Elian’s throat constricted but he didn’t stop. He ran right through the invisible force bubble surrounding the palace, ignoring the tingling sensation running through his skin when he passed through it. Hot sweat trickled down his forehead, soaking the back of his shirt until it clung to him like a second skin. "What’s he doing?" A guard yelled behind him when he moved past the barrier. "Isn’t that the Rogue king’s mate?" "By Hades’ gates... Lord Kyren will kill us if anything happens to him!" "Master Elian! Stop!" But he didn’t listen, pushing himself to his limit and striding closer and closer toward the blazing flames. The wreckage of the ship had been scattered all around the flames, littered on the red sand. From the wings, to parts of the ramp. [Warning: Lucian’s life force readings at 50%... 49%. He might be losing blood drastically.] It was at this point that Elian decided the best option was to scream at the top of his lungs. "Lucian! Where are you?! Lucian?!" But there was no response from the wreckage, forcing him to move closer until the heat from the flames hit his face, becoming almost unbearable.
Smoke twisted out as well, curling into his lungs and forcing him to cover his nose with his right arm. He coughed, closed his eyes... But he didn’t give up. "Lucian, please!" He yelled yet again, dropping his arms. "Answer me. Where are you?!" [He’s somewhere in this wreckage. But if we don’t find a way to extinguish the flames, finding him will be impossible.] Thank the gods for the obvious observation! He gritted his teeth, dimming his eyes and trying his best to look through the smoke and flames. Lucian was running out of time and so was he. "Elian!" Axel called from behind, forcing him to finally glance over his shoulder. The Beta was running toward him and the wreckage alongside five to six guards who all seemed alarmed. "Step away from those flames, Elian." Axel boomed, stretching his right hand forward in warning. Elian parted his lips, his throat getting drained of whatever moisture it had left. But before any words could leave his mouth... BOOM! Another explosion rocked the desert, coming from the wreckage and sending shockwaves that forced Elian to close his eyes. He thought his life was over... Until he realised nothing happened to him. No pain. No more searing heat. Nothing. Elian was forced to open his eyes, gasping when he saw a glowing red force bubble around him. Flames surrounded the force bubble, licking at it and roaring violently like they wanted to reduce him to ash. [External mana detected.] Elian frowned, subconsciously touching the necklace on his neck. He stared at the ruby gemstone, his mind skimming through the possibility. Was this Kyren’s gift at work? However, before he could think any more, something extraordinary happened. The flames stopped blazing, seeming like someone had placed a "pause" button on them. Things didn’t end there as they retreated away from Elian and the force bubble around him, spiralling toward the epicenter of the wreckage. When the flames condensed into a ball, it didn’t take long for it to blip out of existence completely, leaving the desert silent.
Elian blinked, stupefied beyond words. "What the..." He watched as the force bubble disappeared around him, leaving him standing awkwardly amidst the wreckage. [Oh... Goddess...] Elian’s eyes landed on the smoke covering the wreckage just in time to witness someone completely unexpected stepping out of it. Kyren. The rogue king’s white hair whipped around him like snakes, his form menacing and dark under the cover of the smoke. But as epic as he looked, Elian’s attention narrowed on what Kyren carried in his arms. Or rather... Who. Lucian. [Warning: Alpha Prince’s life force readings dropped to 20%.] Elian snapped out of his reverie before he ran toward his mates. One who had saved his life. And the other who he was unsure would survive this.
