Chapter 51: Unique Skill and Spell Xin was taken aback by the high price tags on each item, so he couldn’t help but ask Illyath about it. "Why are they so expensive?" The Fallen Angel replied, "Most of my items are extremely rare and can only be bought here. They’re not available anywhere else." ". . ." Xin pondered for a moment. "Not available? Even in Eternia?" Illyath nodded. "That’s right. Many of the items here with an ’x1’ on them can only be acquired here, which justifies the price." They’re definitely worth it, Xin thought, realizing the unique value of the items in Illyath’s store if sold in the Auction. Xin remembered reading on the forums that Illyath sold amazing items, but no one on the Newbie Island could afford their hefty price tags. The restriction of [Bank Features] and real money conversions in the Newbie Island made it impossible for players to accumulate millions of gil here. But Xin saw an opportunity others had missed. While he couldn’t buy gil with real money, he had a different plan. He possessed rare auction items that could fetch millions of gil in return. With the profit he made from the auction, he could easily buy Illyath’s items and Auction them again. And since there’s only one of them in the entire Guildbane, he could surely sell them double their price in the market. It was a perfect strategy, and Xin was confident it would work like a charm. As Xin pondered his options, the allure of a Tier-5 slot was irresistible. Having the powerful [Create Golem] skill in this slot, would surely let him create fifty LV.50 Golems in a day, and it was incredibly tempting. He also considered using his Skillbook and Spellbook to fill the Tier-5 slot with unique abilities, further boosting his Avatar’s strength. Moreover, Xin couldn’t shake the idea of acquiring special equipment for Xiaxia. She was an Angel Paladin, a class that could wield most weapons be it a Greatsword, Spear, Axe, Hammer, or a Longsword and Shield. The [Spellguard Shield] and [Sunblade] seemed like perfect choices for her. But before he could make any of these upgrades, Xin knew he needed to accumulate more rare items to auction and afford all of Illyath’s precious offerings. There was still much to explore on the Newbie Island, and he bid his farewell to Illyath, eager to continue his adventures and grow stronger, making more money in the process. Outside of the Shrine, Xin eagerly retrieved the Spellbook and Skillbook from his inventory. Now that he had chosen the Biomancer class, he could finally make use of these valuable resources to further enhance his abilities. [ACQUIRED! Electric Surge (Spell) You harness the power of electricity, unleashing a surge of lightning that arcs between enemies. This electrifying spell deals damage and has a chance to STUN targets in its path. Scaled with Level] [ACQUIRED! Nanobot Swarm (Skill) You release a swarm of nanobots that can infiltrate enemies’ equipment and disrupt it from within. This skill can permanently destroy an enemy’s equipment or items while you acquire the blueprint/recipe of the destroyed equipment/items. Scaled with Level] Not bad, Xin thought. With the game’s feature allowing him to interchange skills and spells into available slots, Xin found himself with a versatile combat setup, adapting to various situations. The electric spell was a perfect addition, providing him with much-needed offensive magic. He quickly replaced [Master Artisan] with it, ensuring he had a reliable offensive option if ever ambushed. Although fights were forbidden inside the town, Xin remained cautious and prepared for any unexpected situations. He knew he could interchange [Master Artisan] back later, especially if he needed to use [Create Golem] to boost the quality of his golems to 10%. The limited slots were becoming a concern for Xin, especially with the abundance of skills and spells available. The allure of the Tier-5 slot grew stronger, promising increased power for his Avatar. Acquiring extra slots in the future became a priority, too, ensuring he had enough skills and spells at his disposal. Xin couldn’t afford to be caught in a fight while constantly interchanging his spells and skills to suit his needs, after all. So the more he acquired higher slots, the better. To buy those items in Illyath Shop, Xin proceeded to raise his [Relationship Level] with the NPCs in the Floating Market. It wasn’t difficult, given the small population there. Afterward, he returned to the town below to inquire about quests related to Illyath’s main quest. However, before he could ask the NPCs again, a notification appeared, urging him to log out for much-needed sleep. Reluctantly, Xin left the quests for tomorrow and logged out. As he placed his helmet by his side and closed his eyes, he quickly fell into a deep slumber. ======= The next morning, Xin was abruptly awakened by Xiaxia’s loud shout. "Hoi! Xin! Wake up! We’re going to be late!" Rubbing his eyes, Xin glanced at Xiaxia, then groaned and turned to the side, covering his ears in the process. "You!" Xiaxia couldn’t believe him and raised her voice. "We’re going to school! It’s your advancement exam today, remember?" ". . ." Xin remembered, but he wasn’t particularly excited about going to school. He was more eager to dive into the game and earn money. "Mom! Xin isn’t waking up!" Hearing Xiaxia call their mother, Xin shot up from his bed and stretched. "I’m up." "Good. Now go and shower. It’s already five in the morning. We’re going to be late!" Groaning and still half-asleep, Xin headed to the bathroom to get ready for his advanced exam. Later, on the bus, Xiaxia proceeded to explain things to Xin. "This bus goes straight to our school, though it will take about an hour if it isn’t traffic. There’s also a faster option, the subway, and train, but you’d need to walk from the station to the school. Are you listening?" Xiaxia elbowed Xin when the latter closed his eyes, and his head began swaying side to side on the bus. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚 Xin’s lethargic eyes opened slightly. "Yeah." ". . . Are you going to be okay? You stayed up so late playing Guildbane. Are you really ready to take the test? Did you even prepare?" Xin yawned and closed his eyes again. "I’m fine. I just need a few minutes of nap. Wake me up when we’re there." "Muu . . ." Xiaxia couldn’t believe how nonchalant Xin was about the test. Shouldn’t he be more serious about this? She wondered. They were talking about his future, after all. She hadn’t even asked him what he planned to study if he passed. Currently, Xiaxia is majoring in marketing, and so far, she is loving it. But what about Xin? Her thoughts were interrupted when she felt a weight on her shoulder. Looking to her side, she found Xin’s head resting on her arm, blissfully fast asleep. His white hair looked even more striking up close, and she couldn’t help but twirl her dyed blonde hair, wondering if she should let it grow out to its natural color. As the bus continued on its route, Xiaxia smiled, hoping that whatever Xin chose for his future, he would find success and happiness, just like she did.
