Chapter 168: _Mana Core And Porn Director Elian’s POV
"Am I the only one who doesn’t like Kyren constantly calling Axel and Lucian my ’pets’?" He voiced out to the system as he stared at the book on practical magic. He was still reeling after Kyren left, leaning against a shelf. [I mean, you’re the only one actually hearing him say it. I couldn’t care less.] Elian rolled his eyes. "Can’t you be on my side for once? I’m being serious here. I view Axel and Lucian as more than just pets." [Oh, "more than". Meaning you view them as pets but they have other uses to you? Sex toys perhaps?] Elian’s brows furrowed into a deep frown. "How can you say that?! Yes, Lucian has been a lot but he seems to be trying to change. I’ll give him credit for—" [As much as I’m a fan of all your mates to an extent and live for your drama with them—let’s be real. You’re giving credit to the guy who’s still hesitant to marry you despite being pressured by some of the most influential wolves in Lunarian politics?] Elian’s jaw tightened, unable to say anything. But the system was far from done. [And then there’s the fact that other than when you need them to complete a mission from me, you really don’t bother spending time with Lucian and Axel.]
Elian parted his lips, about to argue the hell out of that... But then he paused, his mind going through the past few days since his rebirth. His first date with Axel... That was to finish a mission where he had to sleep with him. His mind games with Lucian to get his possessiveness and seduction meters up... Was self-explanatory. Every mission given to him by the system was somehow an influence on how much time he spent with his mates. Heck, the only one among them whom he might’ve actually chosen to hang out with without the system’s influence was Kyren. [Glad you’re having your moment of self-reflection. Pretty good for character development and all...] Elian grunted, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Now I feel like shit. Maybe Kyren is right. For calling them my pets." [Sometimes I think you miss the point of my missions. Getting stronger is the goal, yes. But building natural connections with your mates while at it is also important. Ultimately, whether you make a choice is up to you. But for now, what you shouldn’t do is neglect them.] Elian’s lips curled into a warm smile. "This might be the kindest conversation you’ve ever had with me. I’ll prove to Kyren and anyone else that they aren’t just pets. Thank you, sy—" [Alright, you can mope about your poor life choices later. We ain’t paying for that. Right now you need to brush yourself up on the basics in that book.] Sigh... He should’ve known the system’s niceness wouldn’t last. Elian drew in a deep breath before he opened the book, turning to the first few pages. What he saw first was a simple explanation of a mana core as well as diagrams of what it usually looked like. "So, according to this, a mana core and the amount of mana stored within it determine how much magic reserves a witch or magical being has," Elian muttered. "Spells, rituals and the like use mana to tap into different aspects of existence and manipulate them to your will." [Looks like magic also involves a lot of intent and willpower... As expected. So I guess believing in fairytales does have its benefits after all.] Elian shook his head slowly, squinting when he flipped a page. "There are various levels of power of mana cores and also different spell levels." "There’s the beginner level core which an average witch usually has. Then Intermediate level core, Ascendant, Mythic, Starlight, Transcendent and finally... Eternal which is the highest."
[Updating information into the database... Analysing data and comparing real-world examples...] Elian waited patiently, tapping his fingers on the book. Eventually, the system dinged with an update. [Okay, I’ve got something. Based on this explanation, Kyren has a Transcendent-level core. This means he has enough mana to affect and shape fundamental forces like space and time to his will.] Elian’s eyes bulged. "Damn. Wait, since I have access to ten per cent of his powers now, does that mean I could do that too?" [You’re so adorable when you’re delusional.] Elian clicked his tongue, flinging his arms into the air. "This is pointless. Why the fuck am I here learning about mana cores and shit? I want real action. I need to start casting spells." He stared at the book with his jaw clenched, shaking his head in defeat. [On the bright side, I have a free option you could use for this book.] Elian squinted but the system didn’t say anything, instead reflecting a blue translucent screen in front of his eyes. Numbers he didn’t understand began flashing through the screen in quick succession. But after a few more seconds, the screen showed "scan completed". [I added everything in the book into my database. Technically I already know everything and more since I have books of all kinds in my Ascension shop. But you still win all the same.] Elian’s face cracked into a genuine smile. "You’ve been really helpful so far today. What’s the occasion?" [Don’t jinx it, fruitcake. Now let’s get out of here. You still have that special mission to complete and you don’t have access to Kyren’s mana unless he’s 200 feet away anyway.] Elian sighed, clasping the book close to his chest and walking toward the door. When he stepped out, the door closed on its own, glowing with a faint red light before sealing shut. "I don’t even know where to start with that mission." Elian huffed, scratching the back of his head. "I have all three of them in the palace. But how do I get all three of them to want to do anything intimate with me simultaneously in the same room?" The system was really starting to give porn director with these missions...
[There are a few ideas you can easily come up with. One of them possibly involves your charm Aura skill. You’ve just got to be creative.] Elian tried to think of something as he turned a corner, about to find his way to his chambers. But then— [Alert! Mate #1 approaching...] Elian’s heart skipped a beat, his eyes catching a glimpse of Lucian waltzing in his direction several meters away. Shit. "There you go again talking to yourself." Lucian just happened to be lurking in that direction, his silver eyes glinting with suspicion. . Elian’s breath caught in his throat, his heart doing somersaults as the Alpha Prince advanced slowly toward him. "L–Lucian..." Elian stuttered, swallowing hard. "I was just... Memorising stuff I read inside the library. I—" "Stuff involving ’all three of them’ doing something intimate with you?" Lucian boomed through the corridor, tilting his head slightly. "You forget I have advanced hearing. Do you mind telling me what that was about?" [I swear to the goddess, you’re really starting to piss me off. WHEN will you learn to keep our conversations in your head?] Elian’s forehead leaked with cold sweat as Lucian got closer.
