Chapter 146: _You Dare Touch Him! Elian’s POV
Just one day. Just one fucking day where everything doesn’t go to shit quicker than when he inhales a steak. Was that too much to ask?! Elian couldn’t help but wonder this mentally as he struggled to breathe on the marble ground of the bakery he and Kyren had teleported into. How they went from having a walk to THIS... was mind-boggling. [Status report: So erm... There’s a bit of an issue here. Scratch that, it’s a huge issue.] Elian huffed through gritted teeth, wishing he could smack the bugger on its invisible face. ’Yeah... You told me I had nothing to worry about with the bond curse. So what the fuck is happening now?’ he managed to ask mentally while struggling to raise his head and stare at Kyren. The hooded man standing behind the counter finally turned fully to face them, his arms stretched wide. Elian’s brows creased when he saw that face underneath the hood.
That face... Why did it feel like he’d seen that face before? [Alright, you might want to sit back for this evaluation... Oh, wait. You’ve already got that covered up.] Elian didn’t know whether to curse, laugh or cry. At this point, he might as well do all three. Meanwhile, Kyren seemed affected by whatever was ripping through the mate bond, but was handling it way better than he was. The Rogue king stood firm like an unmoving boulder as the hooded man walked around the counter, standing outside. "Is this what I taught you, Kyren?" The man asked with a deep voice, filled with disappointment. "Tying yourself down to someone? Leaving yourself vulnerable because of what? Love? The moon goddess’ will?" Kyren’s body trembled and despite the current state of the mate bond, Elian could feel the rage bubbling through him hotter than magma. "Don’t you dare talk to me like you know me!" Kyren snarled, his magic spiking out in waves and causing the ground underneath his feet to tremble. "Oh, but I know you, boy. You’re my son, after all." The man smirked, his sickly golden eyes flicking to Elian as he stroked his beard. Elian’s heart skipped a beat as realisation dawned on him. Kyren had shown him a vision of his past. And in that vision... This man standing there like he’s got everything under his control was Kyren’s father! Except in that vision, he wore a golden Lunarian armour and was clearly a werewolf. So, uhm... How the fuck was he using magic? "I don’t know how you got his face, but you’re not my father." Kyren sneered, his right hand glowing with a blood red light. "And I’ve had just about enough of this—" Before he could make a move, the man flicked the fingers of his right hand, causing the curse ravaging the mate bond to pierce sharply with more pain. Elian cried out weakly, falling on his side and convulsing, his fingers twitching. His eyes blurred, but he tried to focus his hearing on Kyren, who yelled out with rage.
"You dare touch him!" The power in his voice acted as a force of destruction that shook the building down to its foundations while giving new strength to Elian. [Alright, my scanning is complete... This man, whoever he is, is the main source of the curse affecting you and Kyren. The titan witch was just a puppet he used in inflicting it.] Elian was still very much in pain despite Kyren’s magic lessening it, but he managed to sit up just in time. He witnessed Kyren stretching his right hand toward the man, sending a powerful blast of crimson energy at him. His long white hair blew behind him like snakes, the force of the blast so strong that cracks began spreading like spider webs beneath his feet. But the hooded man created a dark gold force field, shielding himself from the full force of the blast. ’How do we break the curse?’ Elian asked the system while drawing in deep breaths. His fingers glowed faintly with a dull red light as he tapped into Kyren’s powers through the Bond Resonance skill. Ten per cent of Kyren’s full power lay in his fingertips... But he didn’t even know how to use it. [I don’t know how to break the curse, but I can tell you that what you’re doing now might not be as helpful as you think.] Oh, come on! Elian’s jaw tightened as he staggered up to his feet. Before he could even balance his footing, Kyren glanced over his shoulder at him, pushing the blast to a higher capacity while at it. Seeing the brief flash of suspicion in Kyren’s eyes made Elian flinch but relief came through when he heard his voice in his mind. ’I’m unravelling the inner workings of the curse. It thrives on us being in close proximity.’ Kyren said solemnly. ’I’m about to go all out. This bastard is the source and killing him might most likely break the curse.’ Elian nodded, managing to collect his thoughts enough to speak mentally. ’Is... Is he really your father? If he is, how then can he use magic?’ Kyren blinked at him for a second or two before tearing his gaze away from him.
’I’ll teleport you outside now. Farrell and some of my soldiers are waiting. Stick to them.’ Elian’s breath hitched when he heard that, his limbs trembling as he struggled to walk toward Kyren. The heat from the blast was becoming unbearable and the ceiling was already caving in with dust and debris. ’Kyren, I’m not leaving you—’ Before he could finish that statement, a red light flashed through his vision, forcing him to close his eyes. When he opened his eyes the next second, he realised he was outside again, standing at a corner of the street. [ALERT: Host is outside the 200-foot range needed to make the Bond Resonance skill work.] Elian frowned, looking around with confusion as he noticed soldiers running past him and heading in the direction behind him. Normal civilians were either closing down their stores, running for their lives or locking their windows in fear. Just when Elian turned around to face the direction the soldiers were heading, however, the worst happened— BOOM! A huge blast of red light and flames erupted hundreds of meters in that direction, rising into the air like a tower. But the force from the blast was enough to make Elian close his eyes, the mate bond pulsing with even more pain until he couldn’t help but scream: "Kyren!" He screamed his name through the bond, but the only thing that answered him was silence.
