Chapter 211: Ascending the First Level "What a peculiar group," Yuzuro commented, her head lowering in exasperation as she exhaled a breath.
Midnight Duchess chuckled, her tone wicked as she teased Grey Smoke, "It appears you’ve attracted quite the attention. I wonder why these types seem to flock towards you."
"Shut up," Victor snapped, his patience wearing thin whenever she was concerned.
"And you said that I’m the shady one," Midnight Duchess continued, unbothered by Victor’s gloomy face.
"I’m not talking to you."
"They’re Strange? More like a bunch of imbeciles," Rever commented, his frustration evident as he clenched his fists, knuckles grinding together. "If I ever see them again, I’ll make sure to knock their teeth out of their ugly faces."
Yuzuro sighed, her tone filled with resignation. "It’s better to just ignore those guys."
"But can you believe the audacity of wanting Lord Schrödinger to fight against a level 90+ damage dealer?" Rever continued, shooting Victor a sidelong glance. "How do you even know those idiots?"
Victor’s smile remained unfaltering. "It’s all part of the business. When you’re in my league, you get to know all sorts of players."
Rever stuck out his tongue in disgust. "Well, that encounter left a bitter taste in my mouth."
"Never mind them. Let’s focus on clearing this first level," Victor said as they moved towards the next room, the challenges of the dungeon awaiting them and the bizarre encounter with Shadow Requiem pushed to the back of their minds, at least for the moment.
With each step, the atmosphere in the Shapeshifter Mirage grew increasingly tense.
Xin, Victor, Midnight Duchess, Yuzuro, and Rever navigated the labyrinthine corridors of the first level with caution, their eyes constantly scanning for hidden traps and their ears tuned to the slightest of sounds.
The rooms, each with its unique challenge, tested their mettle and teamwork in unexpected ways.
There were luxurious bedrooms that welcomed them with their opulence.
Luxurious carpets, intricate tapestries, and an exquisite bed adorned the space, lit by the warm glow of candlelight casting mysterious shadows across the room.
Yet, even in this seemingly peaceful haven, danger lurked. A rogue rug of smothering, triggered by their presence, came to life, its fibers springing to attack.
With quick reflexes and coordinated strikes, they managed to evade its deadly grasp, leaving the room unscathed.
Entering another room, they found themselves in a wine cellar. Ancient wood and the scent of liquor permeated the air as candlelight flickered on the walls, illuminating shelves stocked with a vast array of beverages.
The inviting atmosphere, however, masked the threat within.
As they approached the bar counter, a swarm of aggressive enemies, likely drawn by the noise, emerged from the shadows.
Swords clashed, spells flew, and the battle was fierce.
The group skillfully defended themselves, pushing back the horde and securing their path forward.
Moving on to the next, they encountered another library of ancient tomes and scrolls, the air thick with the scent of aged parchment.
As they perused the shelves, seeking clues about the dungeon’s mysteries, animated books, and scrolls leaped from their resting places, attacking with unexpected ferocity.
Xin’s magic shot through the air, countering the ambush as Midnight Duchess moved swiftly through the chaos, her blade cutting down enemies with a single strike, dealing critical hits whenever she went.
Yuzuro stood at the rear, her healing energies mending wounds as quickly as they appeared.
Further going forward, a vast laboratory greeted them, filled with alchemical concoctions and peculiar contraptions.
An intricate puzzle guarded the exit, requiring their collective intelligence to solve.
While Victor deciphered the symbols, Rever and Yuzuro manipulated the apparatus, and Xin examined the arcane runes.
They combined their intellect and quick thinking as they solved the puzzle, unlocking the door to the next room.
The second to the last room proved to be the most treacherous yet.
A series of interconnected chambers, each with its unique hazard, tested their agility and coordination. Trapdoors, collapsing floors, and swinging pendulums became their adversaries.
With each perilous step, they relied on each other’s guidance and support, narrowly escaping traps that could have spelled their doom.
Amidst the dangers, their bond grew stronger . . . somewhat.
Victor’s combat prowess, Midnight Duchess’s swiftness, Yuzuro’s healing magic, Rever’s brute strength, and Xin’s strategic mind complemented each other perfectly.
Every victory, every narrowly avoided trap, solidified their trust in one another.
In this encounter, however, they had acquired two very rare treasures.
