Chapter 203: Is this for Life? The news of Xin and Seraphina’s relationship spread through the school like wildfire, igniting a storm of shock and disbelief.
The revelation, most significantly, came directly from Seraphina’s lips, making the truth indisputable and undeniable.
In the crowded hallways and classrooms, students exchanged bewildered glances, their minds struggling to grasp the reality of the situation.
How could someone like Xin, who had always seemed so ordinary and lethargic, find himself entangled with someone like Seraphina Fey?
It was a riddle they couldn’t solve, a mystery that left them both intrigued and perplexed.
For many, the news was met with a deep sense of lamentation. Hearts once filled with adoration for their goddess now felt heavy, burdened by the weight of unrequited feelings.
The once-unattainable Seraphina was now taken, her heart belonging to someone else.
The hallways echoed with sighs of disappointment and sorrow as students mourned the loss of their fantasies, their dreams of being the one to capture Seraphina’s attention.
Bitterness hung in the air like a bitter aftertaste as some struggled to accept the truth. It was a blow to their pride, a reminder that even the most fervent worshippers couldn’t control the whims of the heart.
Envy twisted the features of those who had secretly harbored affection for Seraphina, their jealousy like a venomous snake coiled in their chests.
However, what could they do but swallow the bitter taste or risk Seraphina’s eerie?
In the midst of the turmoil, there were those who refused to believe, their denial manifesting in hushed whispers and desperate attempts to find loopholes in the story.
But the confirmation was irrefutable, the evidence too concrete to dismiss. Seraphina’s lips had uttered the words, forever changing the dynamics of the social landscape within the school.
The air buzzed with a palpable tension, an electric charge that crackled with unspoken emotions.
Eyes once filled with admiration now bore a mixture of curiosity and disappointment. The once-untouchable goddess was now a mortal, her heart vulnerable to love, and her choice had left a trail of shattered illusions in its wake.
The whispers persisted, the glances lingered, and the unspoken question hung in the air: How did this unexpected romance come to be?
Later that night, the evening unfolded with an air of forced normalcy as Xin, Xiaxia, and Seraphina sat down for dinner.
The table was laden with an impressive spread of dishes, a testament to Seraphina’s efforts, yet the festive array of food did little to lift the oppressive atmosphere that lingered in the room.
Xin noticed Xiaxia’s gaze, sharp as a dagger, slicing through the silence.
"What is it?" he asked as ate without care.
"You two . . ." Xiaxia began calmly, her voice belying the storm within her. "Are you sure about this fake relationship?"
They had to tell her the truth. It was the only way to calm her down . . . somewhat.
. "It’s the only way to protect Xin," Seraphina stated firmly, her eyes meeting Xiaxia’s gaze.
Xiaxia’s frustration was bubbling beneath her calm exterior, and she responded sharply, her words laced with accusation. "A protection he wouldn’t need if you had just stayed away from him and hadn’t asked him to accompany you to that restaurant."
"Xiaxia," Xin warned.
Xiaxia’s defiance remained unyielding as she crossed her hands. "It’s the truth."
Seraphina interjected, "I understand your concerns, Xiaxia. But blowing this out of proportion won’t help. I am taking full responsibility for my actions."
Xiaxia’s frustration mounted. "By creating this façade that would get my brother into more trouble?"
"Do you have a better idea, then?" Xin asked her.
She hesitated before suggesting, "I do have a better idea. One that would make your life easier and more peaceful. Just transfer to another zone, where no one knows about all this."
"I will not run away," Xin stated. "This is my life, my school, and my home."
The room fell into a heavy silence, the unspoken tension lingering like an uninvited guest.
Xiaxia’s expression was a blend of worry and frustration, before she finally conceded. She couldn’t do anything if Xin didn’t want to go.
Despite her concerns, she understood that she couldn’t force him into a decision he wasn’t willing to make.
Xiaxia’s cheeks puffed up in a pout. "It’s the most peaceful idea!"
Xin sighed, his tone resigned. "It already happened. There’s no use dwelling over it." His words were laced with finality, a firm acknowledgment that they had to face the reality before them.
Seraphina spoke up, her voice held a calm authority. "Can I talk with you for a moment, Xiaxia?"
Xiaxia shot her a glare. "Good. I have something to say to you as well."
Xiaxia rose from her seat and led the way toward the living room while Seraphina followed in her wake.
On the side, Xin continued to eat, and couldn’t help but voice his concern. "You’re not going to kill each other, right?"
Seraphina chuckled softly. "Of course not. She’s your sister," she replied, her tone light.
There was something in her words that didn’t sit well with Xin.
What if Xiaxia wasn’t his sister?
The chilling thought lingered in Xin’s mind and he swallowed the food he ate with an audible gulped.
On the other side of the room, Xiaxia was resolute in her determination to sever the ties between Seraphina and Xin, regardless of the cost.
As long as that woman was around him, Xiaxia believed her brother wouldn’t have a peaceful life.
She had nothing personal against Seraphina, but the moment she entangled Xin in her twisted, beautiful, slender hands, it became personal.
Xiaxia opened her mouth, but before she could voice her concerns, Seraphina beat her to it.
With a sly smile, Seraphina revealed a diamond-studded card and presented it to Xiaxia. "This is a very special card exclusive to the Feys. With this card in your possession, you can shop in our malls and dine in any restaurant for free. Enjoy a fifty percent discount on your purchases, and there’s more –– you’ll have access to weekly spa sessions . . . all complimentary."
". . ." Xiaxia was left speechless, her mouth opening and closing in disbelief.
Emotions warred on her face, struggling with her inner demons, and when she finally found her voice, she asked, "Is this for a lifetime?"
Seraphina’s smile widened, her eyes glinting with satisfaction. "Yes."
