Chapter 135: The Mummy’s Fury The sudden influx of players caught Rever’s attention, his brows furrowing in curiosity.
"What’s going on? Why are there so many players around here all of a sudden?" Rever asked with questioning gazes.
Yuzuro answered with a hint of excitement in her voice,
"It looks like there might be some kind of event happening. That’s the only explanation for such a crowd."
Victor made sure and decided to investigate further, pulling up a holographic interface to gather information. "Let me check. I’ll see what’s happening."
When Victor delved into the information network, he quickly found the source of the commotion.
. "Ah, it seems there’s another sighting of a hidden boss in this area. That explains why so many players have gathered."
Rever’s curiosity piqued at the mention of a hidden boss, but he couldn’t help but wonder aloud about the recent frequency of such encounters.
"Hidden bosses seem to be popping up a lot lately, don’t you think? What do you say, team? Should we go check it out?"
Victor quickly dismissed the idea, convinced that they had missed their chance. "I doubt there’s much point in heading there now. By the time we arrive, the hidden boss will likely be long gone. Let’s not waste time and continue forward."
Xin, on the other hand, took a closer look at the image of the Hidden Boss that one of the players had managed to sketch and share online.
As he examined the drawing, a peculiar thought crossed his mind. The masked Figure, reminiscent of Thor, the thunder god, bore an uncanny resemblance to Hilda — if he were a girl.
Xin’s eyes shifted behind, and he didn’t see Hilda peeking around. He then shrugged and merely dismissed the thought and moved on.
In the next room, the players discovered a female body, unmistakably that of a mortician who had once worked within these haunted walls.
Despite the passage of years, her corpse remained in a remarkably well-preserved state, hinting at mystical anomalies that pervaded the mausoleum.
Upon closer inspection, it became evident that she had met a tragic end. Her life was abruptly cut short before she could complete her work.
Clutched tightly in her lifeless hand were the keys to the adjacent sleeping quarters (room 5). The eerie atmosphere was further intensified by the sight of knives and two gleaming gold coins resting in the hollows of the corpse’s eyes.
There was also another corpse upon a stone platform.
However, there was a catch to this room. A solitary entrance served as both the gateway in and out. It became apparent that the deceased woman was the key to this peculiar setup.
If any player attempted to seize the keys from her grasp, she would rise from her lifeless state, determined to guard her precious possessions even in death.
As the once-dead mortician stirred, an eerie mumbling filled the air, the voice originating from a semi-mummified figure resting on the upper stone platform.
"Mother . . ."
Yuzuro couldn’t help but shiver in the face of this macabre spectacle, seeking refuge behind the reassuring presence of Rever.
Victor wasted no time in making a decision. "Let’s secure those keys and make our exit."
Midnight Duchess was already on the move, swift and lethal, ready to kill the mummy and retrieve the key.
Midnight Duchess sprang into action as she swiftly approached the mummy. Her shadowy cloak billowed behind her as she closed in on her.
In her gloved hand, a gleaming dagger appeared, glinting ominously in the dimly lit chamber.
The mumbling grew louder and more erratic as the mummy’s unrest intensified. It reached out with frail, desiccated hands, fingers curling and trembling with an eerie longing.
Without hesitation, Midnight Duchess executed a precise series of strikes with her dagger, her movements a blur of agility. The blade cut through the ancient wrappings with surgical precision, rendering them in tatters.
The mumbling ceased abruptly, replaced by a hushed stillness as the mummy’s once-bound spirit seemed to find a semblance of peace. Its form, now exposed and vulnerable, remained motionless.
Midnight Duchess retrieved the keys from the corpse of the mortician with a deft hand. With the keys secured, she turned back to her companions, her expression veiled by the shadows of her cloak.
"We have what we need. Let’s proceed."
Rever whistled. "That’s fast."
Yuzuro sighed in relief that she didn’t have to fight.
Victor rolled his eyes. "Show off."
Xin, on the other hand, pointed to the other mummy. "I think he’s mad."
Every eye turned to the woman. As the woman dies slowly, she utters the words, "No blood in vain, no life in pain."
And the semi-mummified monster on top of the platform screamed, "MOTHER!" and fell into a rampage, getting twice as strong.
"I think you just killed his mother," Rever commented.
Midnight Duchess only flexed her blade. "Should we kill him as well?"
Victor shrugged and crossed his arms. "Be my guess. I assume that you can take care of it."
Midnight Duchess stood poised and unfazed before the enraged and rampaging mummy.
The mummy was a formidable opponent at level 90+ with doubled stats and possessed a menacing aura that sent shivers down the spines of even the most battle-hardened players.
Its potential to one-shot anyone at the same level was a grim reality that loomed over the group.
As the mummy lunged forward with a deafening roar, Midnight Duchess sprang into action. Her cloak billowed dramatically behind her as she moved with supernatural agility, narrowly evading the mummy’s first frenzied attack.
With the mummy’s [Multi-attack] abilities and deadly [Rotting Fists] poised to strike, Midnight Duchess had to rely on her lightning-quick reflexes and unmatched combat expertise. She knew that a single mistake could spell doom for her.
"I-I think we should help her," Yuzuro stuttered.
Rever bumped his fists together. "Right."
"Don’t," Xin advised, and Rever and the others were baffled by his statement.
"I don’t think she would appreciate it if we went to her aid," Xin continued. "She has her pride as a top player."
