Chapter 132: You Pointed a Finger at the Wrong Man There was no honor or chivalry in Devil Rising’s actions, only opportunistic cruelty.
Disruptions in formation were their specialty, pushing players out of strategic positions and into the grasp of their relentless foes.
The room became a battleground for both the living and the undead, with players clashing with skeletons while simultaneously fending off the ambushes orchestrated by Devil’s Rising.
The air crackled with tension and unease as alliances formed and dissolved in the blink of an eye. Shouts of frustration and anger mingled with the clashing of weapons and the haunting rattling of bones.
Players struggled to regain their composure, their faces etched with a mixture of frustration and trepidation.
Amidst the chaos, Xin and the others’ disapproval was evident, his head shaking slowly as he observed the reprehensible behavior unfolding before them.
It was a display of deception, aggression, and mayhem, a stark reminder that not all challenges in the virtual world came from programmed adversaries and that the human element could often be the most unpredictable and dangerous of all.
"I can’t take it any longer!" Rever seethed, his fists trembling with anger as he prepared to confront Devil’s Rising.
He was ready to knock the smugness off their faces when Victor intervened, firmly gripping his shoulder.
"They’re not worth getting suspended over," Victor cautioned. "Let’s exercise some restraint here."
. However, Broody was always the troublemaker and couldn’t resist provoking a confrontation. He pointed an accusatory finger at Xin and strode toward him, a twisted grin distorting his face.
His jabbing finger found its target on Xin’s chest, and he taunted, "You! I don’t like that look on your face since the moment I saw you. You got something to say to me, huh?"
Xin’s golems growled menacingly, but before they could react, Broody’s fingers flew in the air together with his hands, followed by a dramatic drop in his HP.
It all happened so swiftly that no one comprehended the sequence of events until Midnight Duchess and Victor flexed their weapons, their slit eyes narrowed on Broody.
"It seems you no longer value your life," Victor remarked, his voice cold as ice. Before Broody could react, both Victor and Midnight Duchess dispatched him with ruthless efficiency, reducing him to pieces in the blink of an eye.
A stunned silence enveloped the room, rendering everyone speechless. Rever couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow as he muttered, "What happened to exercise patience?"
It took a moment for the remaining members of Devil’s Rising to find their bearing, their weapons raised accusingly toward Xin and his group.
"What do you think you’re doing?!"
"What? You’re the only ones allowed to attack players without expecting retaliation?" Victor sneered.
"You’ll pay for that!" The remaining Devil’s Rising players charged toward Victor and the others.
"That’s what I’m talking about!" Rever smashed his fists together and roared, shedding his human skin to give way to his beast form as he charged toward the other players.
"Oooh . . . we’re going to be deeply in trouble for this," Yuzuro expressed her concern but readied her spells, knowing that they were now entangled in this conflict.
With Rever and the golems leading the charge, Victor and Midnight Duchess had an easier time singling out the members of Devil’s Rising, picking them off one by one amidst the chaos.
The room had descended into an all-out brawl.
The room erupted into chaos as Devil Rising clashed with Xin and the others in a one-sided massacre.
Victor and Midnight Duchess moved at lightning speed, their blades slicing through the air as they engaged their foes.
They exhibited an uncanny ability to predict their opponents’ movements, parrying blows effortlessly and countering with precise strikes.
Rever, now transformed into his beast form, made him into a formidable presence on the battlefield. With every swipe of his massive claws and each bone-crushing bite, he sent players flying, leaving a trail of defeated adversaries in his wake.
Yuzuro, though initially apprehensive, summoned her spells with growing confidence. Magic crackled around her as she hurled healing spells, mostly at Rever because he was reckless.
Xin’s defensive golems acted as formidable bulwarks against the onslaught. Their hulking frames absorbed blows and shielded him and Yuzuro from harm, all the while delivering crushing counterattacks that sent enemy players reeling.
The two DPS golems didn’t have to lift a finger as Midnight Duchess, and Victor took care of every member in Devil’s Rising.
Meanwhile, Devil’s Rising, though initially aggressive, was now reeling from the retaliation. Their ranks had thinned, and the arrogance that had characterized their earlier actions had given way to panic and desperation.
"That’s cheating! There are so many of you!" the opposing side shouted, pointing an accusing finger at Xin’s golems.
Struggling to regroup and coordinate their attacks, it was evident that the tide had turned against them. Their earlier bravado had faded, replaced by desperation to save themselves.
There was no room for mercy, and each member of Devil’s Rising paid the price until only one remained, pleading for his life.
"If you kill me, the whole guild will come after you!" he threatened with a shaking voice.
Xin, Rever, and the others exchanged glances, and Rever simply shrugged. "So be it. I have no regrets."
All eyes turned to Yuzuro, who sighed and replied, "I’m only part of the foraging group. They probably won’t pay much attention to me."
Victor’s lips curled into a menacing smirk. "Then it’s settled. Any last words?"
"Son of a B–!"
Before the player could utter a response, Victor swiftly executed him, severing his head from his virtual body.
The other players watched in a mixture of amazement and relief, some even cheering, satisfied that Devil’s Rising had received their due.
Xin, however, couldn’t help but worry about the potential repercussions for Rever and Yuzuro as a result of this fight. However, his face remained a mask of emotionless block of stone.
"Are you both certain this won’t come back to haunt you?" Xin inquired.
"No need to worry," Rever reassured him, chuckling. "Despite their threats of war, those guys aren’t serious. They’re all bark and no bite. Besides, who doesn’t have an enemy or two in this game, right?"
All eyes then turned to Midnight Duchess, her expression unreadable behind her cloak. It was no secret that she had accumulated her fair share of adversaries.
Midnight Duchess merely smirked, embracing her reputation.
"In any case, let’s not dwell on them," Victor declared, taking the lead. "We have a quest to complete."
Unbeknownst to Xin and his companions, Devil’s Rising began gathering a formidable force, driven by their desire to avenge the humiliating defeat they had just suffered.
They rallied allies and friends, forming a coalition intent on storming the fortress and seeking retribution.
