Chapter 122: A Quick Rest Xin and his companions ventured into the next room, stepping into a transformed realm that bore little resemblance to the darkened catacomb they had just departed.

Here, the dank scent of moist earth enveloped them, and lush foliage adorned the space that had once been a root cellar.

Once utilitarian and dim, the chamber was now a thriving ecosystem teeming with life — vines, thick and sinuous, coiled around wooden supports and extended their reach to the very ceiling.

Despite the eerie juxtaposition of this vibrant botanical world against the dungeon’s grim backdrop, the room exuded a surprising vitality.

Amidst the verdant growth, an array of mushrooms sprouted from the damp earth. Some bore the mark of treacherous toxicity, their sinister allure disguised by their captivating beauty. These fungi added an element of danger to the serene landscape.

While the chamber was home to potential adversaries, it became apparent that these entities had no immediate designs on violence.

Players, undeterred by the flora’s otherworldly charm, moved about cautiously, searching for items and gathering what they could from the verdant abundance.

Hidden amidst the profusion of flora and tucked away in concealed crevices, grey Ooze creatures lay in wait, their presence shrouded by their fuzzy exterior.

To the untrained eye, they were easily mistaken for benign flora, a deadly misconception swiftly shattered upon contact.

These primordial slime-born grey Ooze creatures harbored a relentless desire to dissolve all that crossed their path. Their gelatinous forms concealed an unsettling resilience and a chilling ability to sap their victims’ strength, rendering them formidable and dangerous adversaries.

Prudent players wisely chose to avoid confrontation, and Xin and his companions, after assessing the risks, opted for a similar course.

Victor’s gaze swept across the lush surroundings, his eyes scanning the verdant expanse. "What do you want to do? Shall we explore this area first?" he asked.

Xin nodded. "I’ll take this opportunity to forage some materials."

"Ah, the craftsman at work," Rever remarked, stifling a yawn and stretching his arms wide. "Foraging is part of your class, after all."

Yuzuro was enthusiastic. "Foraging can be enjoyable." But then her expression fell when she remembered her job in the guild. "Only when it’s not a constant chore."

Rever, on the other hand, made a face of mock distaste. His tongue sticking out. "Those tasks make me drowsy just thinking about them."

"Agreed," Victor concurred. "We should seize this moment to rest. I’ll have Shadow scout around to see if anything catches his eyes."

Rever wasted no time in making himself comfortable, reclining atop a sizeable mushroom that, while not poisonous, was far from remarkable.

However, it offered a surprisingly cozy spot akin to a soft couch in the heart of this vibrant botanical oasis.

Yuzuro was eager to join Xin in foraging, her steps light as she hopped over to a promising spot.

Meanwhile, Victor was already drawn to the cabinets that lined one side of the room. Shadow, his faithful companion, scoured the area for hidden treasures with nimble efficiency.

Xin’s attention briefly went to Midnight Duchess, observing her cloaked figure. Veiled beneath the cloak’s shroud, her thoughts remained a mystery, and Xin could only wonder what lay behind that insistent curtain of secrecy.

"What are you going to do?" Xin asked.

"I don’t know. Maybe foraging as well?"

"I see . . . then good luck." Xin didn’t linger long and went to an area to check the foraging spot to see if it had some materials left to forage, hoping that it had respawn, or other players haven’t forage it yet.

As he walked towards a spot, he took in his surroundings. The room they had entered possessed an otherworldly charm that defied the grim dungeons they had traversed.

Lush foliage blanketed the chamber in a verdant tapestry, and the air bore the distinct fragrance of wet earth, redolent with the promise of growth and renewal.

Intricate, thick vines coiled around wooden supports, ascending with an unapologetic grandeur towards the ceiling. The juxtaposition of these vibrant, twisting vines against the dungeon’s darkness was nothing short of astonishing. They seemed to be reaching toward the heavens, yearning for the embrace of an unseen sun.

Among this foliage, mushrooms of various shapes and sizes punctuated the moist ground. Some of them bore an ethereal luminescence, casting an enchanting glow that lent an almost magical quality to the surroundings.

Their soft radiance painted the room in gentle hues of green and blue, imbuing it with an unearthly and dreamlike appearance.

These glowing mushrooms were the room’s pièce de résistance. Their presence created an illusion, conjuring visions of an underground cavern bathed in the soft, iridescent light of celestial bodies.

Giant mushrooms, their stalks thick and their caps enormous grew in Xin’s mind’s eye. These towering fungi cast long, intricate shadows upon the cavern floor, and verdant foliage thrived in abundance, creating a lush, mystical underworld.

Xin’s desire to equip his prized [Golden Gloves] gnawed at him, but he remained wary of drawing any unnecessary attention.

It was essential to maintain a low profile, especially in front of so many players where the unexpected could swiftly turn into a chaotic commotion.

But maybe if he was discrete about it . . .

Xin crouched near a promising foraging spot, his nimble fingers poised to don his coveted golden tool.

However, an unexpected presence at his side disrupted his plan. Midnight Duchess had silently materialized, her movements as silent as her intentions.

". . . Are you interested in this spot?" Xin inquired, though he had arrived in this spot first.

Midnight Duchess offered a subtle shake of her head, her fingers lightly grazing her cheek as she observed Lord Schrodinger with an intensity that made his skin prickle. "Such pursuits hold no allure for me," she replied.

Xin couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease as her gaze lingered on him. The question that had lingered in his mind surfaced.

"You’re not planning to pilfer my items, are you?" he inquired cautiously.

His trusty Golems releasing a low, rumbling warning as if poised to defend him.

Midnight Duchess responded with an amused chuckle that rippled through the chamber. "If I had, you’d have noticed the loss by now, don’t you think?"

Xin, fraught with anxiety, promptly scrutinized his inventory, his calm facade fracturing for the first time, giving way to mounting apprehension.

The stakes were high, and his inventory brimmed with valuable items. Panic gnawed at him as he scoured his inventory for any signs of tampering.

A mischievous giggle from Midnight Duchess interrupted his frantic search, and he glanced at her with an exasperated expression.

. He knew even without seeing her face that she was repressing her laughter based from the shaking of her shoulders.

"Don’t joke with me like that," Xin chided with a wry sigh.
