Chapter 111: About Dungeons "With the quest in our possession, what shall be our next course of action?" Yuzuro inquired, her voice tinged with a touch of timidity and excitement.
This was her first hard quest, and she was excited to explore it with Xin and the others.
Victor momentarily halted their progress towards the Fortress. His gaze focused on the task at hand. "As this quest stands as the most straightforward and uncomplicated among the four, our objectives are narrowed down to two key goals."
Rever interjected with a playful comment directed at Victor’s extensive knowledge despite his apparent unfamiliarity with this dungeon. "You sure seem well-versed for someone supposedly unfamiliar."
Taking it in stride, Victor simply offered a knowing smile. "I have my ways."
Curiosity piqued, and Rever leaned in, prompting Victor to elaborate further. "So, what are these objectives?"
Victor began his explanation. "First, our aim is to uncover the Kitchen Chambers. I heard the kitchen harbors a series of interconnected chambers, each presenting its own set of challenges and rewards."
"In our pursuit of the key," Victor continued, "we’ll need to methodically explore every chamber, decipher riddles, confront adversaries, and navigate through cunningly placed traps."
Rever’s raised an eyebrow, his assessment forthcoming. "So, essentially a standard dungeon crawl?"
"Yes," Victor affirmed, "with the added layer of complexity that these interconnected chambers bring."
Victor’s narration flowed seamlessly as he outlined the second goal. "Next, we’re tasked with locating the Mortuary Key. The noble son’s explanation indicates that one of the kitchen rooms conceals the key to the mortuary, where the Earl’s resting place lies hidden."
"To secure the key," Victor stated, "we’ll need to interpret clues, interact with the environment, and put our intellect to work. Once we possess the key, our journey leads us back to the room containing the Earl’s concealed coffin. There, we will unlock the door and reveal the chamber that houses his remains, ready for a dignified return to his son."
Rever’s enthusiasm remained unwavering as he summarized their plan. "Sounds like a walk in the park. Let’s get to it!"
In contrast, Yuzuro’s soft-spoken concern lingered at the periphery. "I can only hope it proves as manageable as it sounds."
With objectives outlined, the group resumed their path toward The Abandoned Dwarven Fortress, poised to embark on the adventure that awaited within its mysterious walls.
Xin maintained his silence as he noticed Midnight Duchess focusing her attention on something, her countenance growing more serious.
Following her gaze, he discerned that she was fixated on certain players who had been eyeing her earlier. An undercurrent of tension seemed to exist between them, prompting Xin to offer a wry comment.
"Acquaintances of yours?" He quipped with a playful tone, though his expression remained carefully neutral, as if unfazed.
Responding to his jest, Midnight Duchess shook her head slightly. "Quite the opposite. Those are individuals I’ve crossed paths with before. And a few others might be lured by the bounty on my head."
Xin found himself at a loss for words. The number of players who regarded Midnight Duchess with predatory intent was substantial, their imposing appearances suggesting power and danger.
Yet, she seemed to wear their attention like a casual accessory, unfazed by the potential threat they posed.
"You might’ve considered keeping your cloak on," Victor interjected from the sidelines.
With a nonchalant demeanor, Midnight Duchess responded, "By the time I removed it, I was already marked."
"If you prove more troublesome than beneficial, we won’t hesitate to leave you behind," Victor stated, his expression unreadable.
Midnight Duchess offered a chuckle, seemingly amused by Victor’s comment. "Don’t worry, I’m not about to drag you into my personal matters."
"Good," Victor affirmed briskly before moving forward.
Xin observed the exchange between the two. With a final glance at Midnight Duchess, he turned to follow Victor and the rest of the group, leaving her at the back as they forged ahead into the uncharted territory of The Abandoned Dwarven Fortress.
The group approached The Fortress, their steps echoing through the narrow stone path leading to its entrance.
As they drew nearer, the immense structure loomed before them, a testament to the dwarves’ craftsmanship.
The Fortress was hewn from formidable gray and black stones, its surface bearing the weathered scars of centuries. The passage of time had etched its mark on the walls, giving them a rugged, almost ancient appearance.
Yet, despite the evident wear and tear, the Fortress exuded an aura of unwavering resilience.
Massive stone blocks formed the Fortress’s formidable walls, their bulk standing as a testament to the dwarves’ skill in masonry. Even in its age, the Fortress remained staunch and unyielding, a symbol of the tenacity that had seen it through countless challenges.
The stone walls bore the weight of history, telling silent tales of the Fortress’s storied past. Cracks and crevices ran like veins through the stone, while patches of moss and lichen clung to the surface, further adding to its aged character.
. Upon reaching the entrance, the group could see the massive wooden doors that served as the gateway to the Fortress’s mysteries.
These doors, while weathered and aged, still retained their sturdy construction. Iron bands and hinges, tarnished by the passage of time, clung resolutely to the ancient wood, promising to open a path into the unknown.
Amidst the bustling crowd of players, a sense of urgency hung in the air. Everyone seemed to be in a rush, determined to complete the quest and claim the coveted treasures hidden within the castle’s depths.
Yuzuro voiced her concern, her eyes reflecting worry. "With all these players, do you think we have any treasures left?"
Victor replied, "Probably not. Unless we’re lucky enough to spot one that has already respawned."
Curiosity got the better of Xin as he inquired about how dungeons worked. "How do dungeons accommodate so many players?"
He had read it before, but he wanted to make sure from the mouths of experienced players.
"I see you’re new to this, but don’t stress about it," Rever explained with a grin. "Dungeons kinda stretch themselves out to fit all the folks storming in. But get this: some dungeons have these player caps, so you have to chill in line till it’s your crew’s turn. And trust me, dungeons ain’t all cut from the same cloth, man. They each got their own ticket rules, you feel me?"
